Like many people, I get a LOT of ads in my email inbox. Recently I got a link to a free teleseminar by a famous guru. This guy has a pounding, strong style of speaking. I’m reminded of an old-fashioned gospel meeting; never been to the real thing so I’m just going by what I see on television.
After listening for five minutes, I started to get a headache. And I rarely get headaches.
I decided to start taking notes. What is this guy doing? He’s got to be doing something right.
These speakers are masters at telling you the “what to do” but not the “how to do it.” I believe that a free call, speech or article can legitimately offer some teasers. For example: “Just research the market. Then tailor your copy to reach the market. Set up a killer sales page.” Or, “put up a website that will convert visitors and send people to that URL.”
Like, duh.
But I think you also need some takeaways. I give several takeaways in all my Cat Chats and in special classes, like the storytelling class tomorrow. Frankly, I am not convinced by people who just hold out promises. One very famous speaker commands $5000 or more for weekend teleseminars and people pay him thousands of dollars for coaching. But I have no idea what he does. Every call is the same: A foundation story and a bunch of success stories…with a big hole in the middle. I don’t have a single technique I can do when I hang up the phone.
We won’t do this on Tuesday! Go here to learn more.
