Ali Brown just announced a new free call for next Thursday, September 3rd, on the subject of risk-taking. There’s no charge and you can learn more and register here.
Most people associate business ownership with risk. In fact, I once taught an undergraduate class in entrepreneurship (not recommended - it’s something you can’t learn in school). The students couldn’t get off the subject of risk-taking. When asked about qualities necessary for entrepreneurship (not the brightest question but hey, I didn’t write the textb00k) they all wrote about risk.
The reality is that everybody takes risks every day. In fact, I would argue that people get paid in proportion to the risk factors of their job. If you want a risk-free job, you can become a file clerk in a government office. Sales people have the potential to earn big bucks. In some of the best companies, a salesperson can earn more than the president. When risk and reward don’t go together, something gives. People start to play it safe or move on to places where risk will be rewarded.
Entrepreneurs don’t take wild stab-in-the-dark risks. In fact, I just read a book called Ignore Everybody and 39 Other Keys to Creativity by Hugh MacLeod. A successful cartoonist, he argues for hanging on to your day job to keep a foot in the real world. He argues for keeping a day job to maintain the yin and the yang, although he calls it “sex” and “cash.” That’s probably why he’s a super-successful out-there blogger who’s hip, and I’m not.
Well, if you want to learn about risk-taking from a master of the art - like learning how to meditate from the Dalai Lama instead of your local TM teacher - I recommend listening to Her Highness the EzineQueen, Ali Brown. I have a great fondness and respect for Ali because she’s always been upfront and genuinely nice. One year I sold enough products to qualify for her affiliate Christmas bonus. That was (literally) delicious.
Yes…I will be there myself, listening live or via recording. Ali executes flawlessly. You can bet there will be a second chance for those who can’t attend live (although live will be more fun). Come join me.
