Independent professionals are continually marketing for new clients. Marketing consultants used to advise them to attend live networking events. That means a huge investment of time and money. Think about it. For a 90-minute lunch event, you have to

  • get ready to go (if you work at home, that means finding your good shoes)reason not to network
  • drive your car or hop on public transportation
  • park your car ($10-$20 in a major city)
  • get there early to chat with other attendees
  • eat a calorie-filled lunch (alas, it’s bad manners to take home a doggie bag)
  • get a total of ten minutes to introduce yourself
  • retrieve your car or wait for your bus
  • arrive home exhausted (with a sugar high from bad food)
  • go to the dry cleaners to get your clothes ready for your next event
  • send out 20 “nice to meet you” follow-up messages

Whew. I’m exhausted just thinking about it. And out of all that effort, how much business can an independent professional expect to get? I have been told you have to attend many events to see results. I’d guess at least 10.

You probably spent at least $1000 for those 10 lunches: dry cleaning, transportation, parking, and cost of lunch. You used at least 4 hours to get there, participate and return.

Fast forward to the Internet. Put together a terrific website with a copywriter’s secret weapon — success stories. Showcase your brilliance. Promote yourself without feeling like you’re boasting. You can even toss up some audio and video, so prospective clients hear you conducting an interview or working with a client.

And you haven’t even left your living room. Your dress shoes languish in the back of your closet. Your dry cleaner doesn’t remember you anymore. And your car…what car?

Want to get your clients this way? I do. Come learn how at my teleseminars: October 16 and October 23.
